Todays Prediction

Carolina Panthers     34
Minnesota Vikings     10

I think the Panthers will just plain beat the Vikings in every way.

No Roll!

Daunte just threw a nice touchdown pass to Marcus Robinson and he didn't get his roll on.  Maybe something good will come out of the cruise.

Vikings vs Green Bay Prediction

The rube is predicting...

Minnesota Vikings     27
Green Bay Packers     24

I think the Vikes will get off to a quick start (or else the crowd will turn very very ugly) and get a 10 point lead or so.  Then, it'll get boring, then the Pack will come storming back and the Vikings will hold on.

This weeks Dr Zs NFL Power Rankings

This week’s Dr. Z's NFL Power Rankings from Sports Illustrated have the Vikings dropping to #31 – down from #27 last week.  The Lions jumped ahead to #22, the Bears to #27 and Packers up to #28.  What a division we are in!

This lady was on KQ this morning - I think she was happy that her actions had such an impact.

KRT Wire | 10/16/2005 | Vikings' buffoonery knows no bounds: "Just when you thought nothing could top Onterrio Smith and the Whizzinator, or Mike Tice scalping Super Bowl tickets, or Randy Moss' pantomime moon at Lambeau Field or any number of acts of buffoonery that have reduced what used to be a respectable organization to fodder for the late-night TV jibber-jabberers, cue Capt. Stubing, Gopher, Isaac, Julie and a boatload of, ahem, hired enablers."

Minnesota Duckies and Bunnies

Dan "The Common Man" Cole was on Fox 9 news last night doing a bit (very similar to Andy Rooney) about the Vikings and how the roots of their name caused them to have a boat cruise and rape and pillage.  It was pretty good I thought - I like the guy.

I thought the best part was when Common said in order to sail the high seas like the real Vikings, they would have to go to Duluth and that’s a two hour drive and you can imagine how many times he they would have to stop to urinate in someone’s yard.

He came back his bread and butter saying that the Vikings should be called the Minnesota Duckies and Bunnies – a reference to what he calls the PA and Dubay show because they like the local teams.  Another funny thing was he had logos for all his suggestions and one of the logos for Duckies and Bunnies was the playboy bunny.  It was a softball, but he did a good job.

NFL.com - National talk about the boat

NFL.com - NFL News: "Minnesota Vikings players publicly insisting that the major media controversy surrounding an infamous boat party on Lake Minnetonka had nothing to do with their 28-3 loss to the Chicago Bears: The players stuck to their pregame guns that the flap would be no factor against the Bears. Perhaps it wasn't. But it's hard to believe this team is able to concentrate on football when its behavior is bad enough to draw involvement from Paul Tagliabue. At least coach Mike Tice seemed to be a bit more forthright with reporters when he said, in his postgame news conference, 'If I was to say it didn't (affect us) at all, I'd be lying to you. And I don't think any of the local (reporters) would tell you that I've lied."

NFL.com - NFL News - Tice watch

Boatload of woe for Vikings

Not much more to say....

Not much eye contact

I just watched the second series and I kept my eye on the players and their reactions.  There's a lot of people looking at the ground, with their heads down.

Vikings vs Bears Prediction

Chicago Bears.  13
Minnesota Vikings. 17

A major starter (Daunte, Smoot, Moore...I think McKinney will play because the line is so bad and he's playing good) doesn't start for the Vikings...because of the cruise, but Tice will use the meeting excuse.

I'm not too sure it's as obvious to NFL players as it is to the rest of us, and I'm really not sure it's obvious to the Packers.

Kenechi Udeze Out 8 Weeks?

I was listening to Chad Hartman on the drive home today and in a discussion with Mark Rosen, one of them said that the inside word is that Kenechi Udeze will be out 8 weeks, not 2 as previously reported.

Dr Zs Week 5 NFL Power Rankins

Dr. Z's Week 5 NFL Power Rankings from Sports Illustrated have the Vikings ranked #27, dropping 3 spots from last week’s #24.  The good news is that the Bears, Lions and Packers are all below us at #28, #29 and #31.  What a division we are in!

Telephone Game

A caller on The Common Man Progrum just called in and said that maybe the play calling is going through so many people it’s like the telephone game you played when you were a kid.  You got in a line, started with a message, and passed it down the line.  By the time it got to the last person, it was a totally different message.  There are so many people in line for the Vikings play calling, maybe by the time the play gets to Culpepper, it’s a deep pass to the middle when it was initially a sweep to the left.

Tice Watch - Ziggy says he's safe

Ziggy says Tice will be coaching the Minnesota Vikings for the rest of the year.  I think Ziggy saying this helps my prediction, but how many times has that been the death stamp for coaches?  It will be interesting and entertaining to watch it play out.

One issue that has been crossing my mind concerning Tice’s “come to Jesus” meeting from the other day is that we’ve got players (3 unidentified starters) saying Tice quit on the team.  We’ve also got players (Birk specifically) saying the complete opposite - that Tice was saying that he wouldn’t quit on the team.  So he was obviously not completely clear in the way he communicated his thoughts.  He probably translated the meaning of his paper route story to some moral that he learned and I would guess that the 3 unidentified starters didn’t get it.  His point went straight over their heads.  My concern is if Tice has that much difficulty communicating his thoughts to a team of average intelligence (from the wonderlick test), how would he survive with a team of lower intelligence, like the Green Bay Packers?  How does he deal with the idiots on the team that miss the points of his stories/teachings/etc?

Better than the alternative

Okay, the Vikings offense may be sputtering, but at least we don’t have to deal with Randy Moss’s antics anymore.  Here’s the latest – he’s back in the NFL drug program.

Tice Watch - 10/4/05

Here we go – the beginning of the end for Tice as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings.  After hearing reports of what went on in closed door meetings yesterday – closed to assistant coaches too, Tice is already beginning to realize the end is right around the corner.  (I didn’t think it would happen this fast.)  I don’t think a coach has ever been to the edge (discussing quitting with his players) and then turned it – the season and his mental state - around and had a long successful career in coaching, much less coaching the same team for more than the rest of the season.

Here’s the Star Tribune article on what Tice had to say.

Here's Mike Tice's press conference from today - which he was at least a half an hour late for.

Tice Prediction

I predict that Mike Tice will the coach of this team for eleven more games.  He woll NOT make it through the season, but he won't be fired mid-season.  The Vikings will be out of it and Tice will be let go before the last game.  As he starts to realize this, it will be very entertaining.

Wow

This game was lost before the second series.  The final was 30 - 10, but it was never that close.  Nothing for the Vikings was in sync - starting out 3 and out twice was just a sign of things to come.

Warrick Dunn's run will be on lots of highlight real.  He made Corey Chavious look very foolish and his extension into the end zone was highlight reel material.

Wonderlic Personnel Test

There's a been a bit of a buzz about the wonderlic test and how the NFL players score on it. I've heard from a couple places that the Vikings are about average on this test. The beauty part is that the Green bay Packers score dead last in the NFL on this test. Here's a link to the Star Tribune story toward the bottom.

I wonder what Tice's score is and I wonder what the average KFAN listener would score....

Vikings Week 4 Prediction

Here's the week 4 prediction, after hours upon hours of film and studying trends and reading other'd prediction I'm going with:
Altanta Falcons. 33
Minnesota Vikings 17

I was going to go duckies and bunnies on this prediction and predict something along the lines of 38-3 Vikings - and we got jobbed on the 3, but there is a gut feeling in football that I gotta stick with.
